Martensitic stainless steelThe stainless steel used in the manufacture of OPINEL blades is optimized to guarantee both high resistance to corrosion and high mechanical performance.The blade offers excellent sharpness and high resistance to abrasion (wear), which allows it to withstand the normal contact with hard materials, such as ceramics, before requiring resharpening. Stainless steel has the advantage of not needing special maintenance under normal conditions of use, unlike carbon steel. However, it can reach its limits when it is put in prolonged contact with an aggressive environment (acid, salt water, detergent...).Stainless steel hardness: 55-57 HRC.

The handleThe handle is made of ebony, a rare and luxurious wood from the African forests. Thanks to its high density and deep black colour, ebony is traditionally used in marquetry. To achieve a velvety touch, a specific wax is applied by hand to each handle.
Safety ringInvented by Marcel Opinel in 1955, the Virobloc safety ring is fitted on all foldable knives from the N°06 model onwards. Cut from stainless steel, the Virobloc has two sections, one fixed and one sliding. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (safety in use), it is now possible to lock the blade when it is closed (safety during transport).
